The Day Hope Died
By   Julie Anne Hood
A few weeks after I had written the following poem,  the Lord told me I had to mail it to a woman I
hardly knew.  Apparently she was planning to commit suicide on that very morning when my poem
arrived, she saw the mail truck and checked her mail before killing herself.
After reading the poem, she got on her knees and prayed instead.  A year later she was a
happy woman with much to live for! Isn't God amazing?!  Hope you like it as well.
Clouds of dark gray loomed over life,
A dismal feeling on every side,
Casting cold shadows of despair
In the heart on the day that hope died.

No more flowers or sunny skies
Giving life hope and making it new;
No cheerful words or happy thoughts
To make those skies of gray turn to blue.

Impending disaster so real
Making the heart and mind shriek in fear.
No reason to go on living,
Scared yet not shedding one tear.

Petrified of leaving the house
Yet terrified of staying inside,
With thoughts of running far away
But knowing that there’s no place to hide.

Trying to look for some courage
When there is not any to be found.
Slowly losing the will to live
With fear, terror and gloom all around.

With sadness beyond endurance,
Loneliness is felt instead of pride,
Lost in a sea of hopelessness
Is what was felt the day that hope died.

Who could have killed that ray of hope?
The enemy of our souls is who.
He goes around and kills all hope
Taking all joy and faith with him too.

But we can stop him, he’ll not win
If we look to the scriptures and pray;
For in prayer and God’s Word there’s hope
That brings the dawn of a brand new day.

For faith is what hope is made of
If we believe that God really cares
And loves us so much that He hears
And answers  every one of our prayers

So if you’re feeling hope is gone
And you can’t go on for hope has died,
Try looking upward to Jesus
There you’ll find hope and know Satan lied.
