Praying The Word (Part 5) by Julie Anne Hood
|
Have you ever been praying for something but felt you needed to be praying
harder for it?
Try praying the Word. The first time I prayed the Word, I did not really realize what I was doing. Let me tell you about it.
Many years ago my husband was doing long haul truck driving and he had gotten a new job with a new partner.
They would be gone five days at a time. My husband’s partner was not a Christian and I did not think it was such a good idea
for him to spend so much time with someone that was not saved. So I told him I was going to pray that his partner got saved.
Well, he smiled at me, shook his head and said, “I agree it would be a good idea for him to get saved, but I don’t think God will
be able to save him. My new partner is ‘one bad dude’. He’s been in lots of fights, and thrown in jail a time or two.
No, I don’t think any one will be able to get him to go to church, let alone get saved!” That’s when I got down on my
knees and told God, “My husband says his partner is too bad to get saved, but Your Word says in
Hebrews 7:25
“Therefore He is able also to save to the uttermost
(completely, perfectly, finally, and for all time and eternity)
those who come to God through Him, since He is always living
to make petition to God and intercede with Him and intervene for them.”
I’d say things like “Lord, Your Word says in
John 3:16
"For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son,
that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life".
that You loved the world so much that You gave Your
Son to die for the world to save it.
That means you love my husband’s partner and died for him too. My husband says You can’t save his partner because
he’s beyond salvation, but Your Word says that You save to the uttermost-does not that include my husband’s partner?”
I’d go on and on telling the Lord what my husband had said and what God’s Word says. This went on for many months.
Then one day my husband phoned me and said, “ You’re not going to believe this, but my partner and his wife went to
church last Sunday….AND THEY LIKED IT! They think they may go back next Sunday!” I just started praising the Lord!
My poor husband was baffled by this, but I had been expecting it and praying for it! That following week my husband
again phoned me and was amazed as he told me, “They went back yesterday, and his wife gave her heart to Jesus!”
I was laughing and thanking God with much praises. Then the following week, you guessed it, my sweet husband
was in shock as he told me that his partner (that one bad dude) went to the alter and gave his heart to Christ!
Thank You, Jesus!
According to the Bible prayer is powerful and effective (like a stick of dynamite). The Word of God is also powerful
(like a stick of dynamite). So the way I see it, if you pray God’s Word it’s like using two sticks of dynamite instead of one ---
twice as explosive! So find scriptures that support what you’re praying about and use those scriptures when you pray.
And watch as things begin to happen!
