Do You Feel Like A Dead Tree? by Kathleen Puccio
A young man, who is very dear to me, left his wife and son and moved back to his parents’ house. He was understandably very depressed. Later, his mother noticed that he had tattooed his arm. She was quite disturbed. The picture was of a dead tree. When she asked him about it he said that was how he felt inside. I know that this young man is a new Christian and I asked God how a new Christian could feel so dead. I was reminded that a new Christian is a person who is ‘Born Again’, a new life. |
All living organisms need four things:

LIGHT We need light to grow, also for emotional well being. We need light to guide us, to show us where to walk, and where not to walk. All through the Bible, it speaks of the light as good, and how those who shun the light do evil and are evil. John 8:12 tells of Jesus who is the light of the world.

WATER We need water to live. We need a refreshing drink now and then just to revive us. Our bodies are made up of a great deal of water. In the Old Testament of the Bible it speaks of Moses using water and blood and hyssop, and scarlet wool to symbolize the covenant God made with His people, and the New Testament speaks of a new covenant that God made with His people (including us). It speaks of being baptized in water (John 3:5) and in John 4 the Water of Life. It said..."Drink of this Water and never thirst again".

Food

FOOD Food is important for life, health, and growth. God supplied food in the Garden of Eden, and Manna for His people in the wilderness. Many times it is noted that God supplied food for His people. In the new testament God supplied the bread of life to us. John 6 says that Jesus is the Bread of life. At the last supper, Jesus gave his disciples bread saying “This is my body which is given for you”. (Luke 22:19) He asks us to partake of His body and blood, in remembrance of Him. The scriptures are also food for us. (Matthew 4:4). We must read it and digest every bit of it. Only then can our bodies clean the nutrients inside.

AIR To be without air, we would suffocate and soon die. There are times that a gentle breeze has been a welcome haven when the day is unbearably hot. God gave life to Adam by breathing into his nostrils the breath of Life. (Genesis 2:7) Sometimes The Holy Spirit is said to be like a Mighty Rushing Wind. There have been times we all needed resuscitation. Without God’s breath, this world would kill us.

Air

Above are listed four ways God has helped us continue life. Yes, when we accept Jesus as our Savior, ask Him for forgiveness, ask Him to come into our hearts, we are born again. But we need more. We need food, water, air, light to stay alive. God is our food. He is our water. He is our light. Yes, He is the air we breathe. Without God’s daily presence in our lives; His nurturing love, His goodness and forgiveness, we, like the young man with the dead tree tattoo, will whither and die. Because of Jesus, we can experience life, and have it more abundantly. We cannot neglect this ‘new life’ we have. It needs to be cared for to grow and develop. We need to care for it and spend time in prayer with our Father in heaven. It is the only way to grow closer to God.

Matthew 28:19 All followers of Jesus should be baptized.
